Of course, this is not to say that you should ignore your audience completely. It is important to consider your readers' needs and interests. But this should not be your primary concern. Your first obligation is to yourself – to your own voice, your own vision, your own truth. Trust in yourself, trust in your instincts, and trust that your writing will find its audience. So the next time you sit down to write, remember: Write for yourself first, others second. Write from the heart, write with passion, write with honesty. Your words will be all the more powerful for it.
