Don't believe everything your brain tells you from "summary" of Your Brain Is Playing Tricks on You by Albert Moukheiber

Our brains are incredible machines, capable of processing vast amounts of information every second. However, this amazing ability comes with a downside - our brains are also prone to making mistakes. It's important to remember that our brains are not perfect and can sometimes lead us astray. One common way our brains trick us is through cognitive biases. These biases are mental shortcuts that our brains take to make sense of the world around us. While these shortcuts can be helpful in certain situations, they can also lead to errors in judgement. For example, confirmation bias causes us to seek out information that confirms our preexisting beliefs, while ignoring evidence that contradicts them. Another way our brains deceive us is through optical illusions. These illusions occur when our brains misinterpret visual information, leading us to see things that aren't actually there. Our brains rely on past experiences and patterns to make sense of the world, but sometimes these patterns can lead to mistakes. In addition to cognitive biases and optical illusions, our brains can also play tricks on us through memory errors. Our memories are not like video recordings - they are constantly being reinterpreted and reconstructed. This process can lead to inaccuracies and distortions in our recollections of past events. It's important to be aware of these cognitive pitfalls and to approach information with a healthy dose of skepticism. Just because our brains tell us something is true, doesn't necessarily mean it is. By questioning our assumptions and seeking out alternative viewpoints, we can begin to see through the tricks our brains play on us. Remember, our brains are powerful tools, but they are not infallible.
