Cultivate gratitude daily from "summary" of You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Every day when I was living in a garage and eating dollar tacos for dinner, I would lay in bed and list off everything I was grateful for that I could think of. I was always sure to include hot water, window blinds, and the ability to think at the top of my list, along with my athletic body and all the money I knew was coming my way. I was also grateful for the big things, like the fact that I was breathing and my heart was beating and my dog was sleeping peacefully at the foot of my bed, and for all the beautiful things in my life that I knew were on their way to me. I also made sure to include things that hadn’t happened yet, but that I wanted to happen. I’d say things like: “I am so grateful for the perfect parking spot that is always waiting for me in front of wherever I’m going,” and “I am so grateful that money comes to me in increasing quantities through multiple sources on a continuous basis.” The point was to feel the feelings of gratitude as intensely as I could, to really envision what I was grateful for in my mind, and to let that gratitude permeate every cell of my being. And since gratitude is such a powerful force, when I was able to get into that headspace, miracles started showing up in my life with astonishing regularity. Gratitude is the gateway drug to awesomeness. It’s the simplest, easiest, and most powerful way to make big changes in your life. When you cultivate a consistent practice of gratitude, not only do you get to bask in the warm fuzzy glow of thankfulness, you also get to rewire your brain to notice more things you’re grateful for. The more you notice, the more you get, so by making it a daily habit to keep track of things you’re grateful for, you’re actually training your brain to notice even more things to be grateful for. It’s a beautiful cycle that has the power to change your life from ho-hum to fabulous.
