Being an adult is often just pretending you have your life together from "summary" of Wow, No Thank You. by Samantha Irby

It's comical, really, how we all go around pretending like we have our lives together. Like we know what we're doing and have it all figured out. The truth is, most of us are just making it up as we go along, hoping no one catches on to the fact that we're all just winging it. Being an adult is essentially putting on a show for the world, pretending to be confident and in control when deep down, we're all just a mess of insecurities and uncertainties. We dress the part, show up to work on time, pay our bills, and try to appear like we have everything under control. But behind the facade of responsibility and maturity, we're often just barely keeping our heads above water. We may look like we have it all together on the outside, but inside, we're just trying to navigate the complexities of life without falling apart. The pressure to appear like we have our lives together can be overwhelming at times. We feel like we have to meet certain societal expectations and standards in order to be considered successful adults. But the reality is, there is no one-size-fits-all definition of what it means to have your life together. It's all a facade, a performance that we put on for the world to see. In reality, we're all just trying to figure things out as we go along, learning from our mistakes and constantly adjusting our expectations. We may never truly feel like we have our lives together, and that's perfectly okay. It's all part of the messy, unpredictable journey of adulthood. So next time you feel like you're falling short of having it all figured out, remember that you're not alone. We're all just pretending, hoping that one day, we'll actually believe that we have our lives together.
