Communication affects the structure of the brain from "summary" of Words Can Change Your Brain by Andrew Newberg,Mark Robert Waldman

The words you use every day have a profound impact on the structure of your brain. When you engage in positive communication, such as expressing gratitude or offering words of kindness, your brain releases feel-good neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin. These chemicals not only make you feel good in the moment, but they also help to strengthen neural connections in your brain. Conversely, when you engage in negative communication, such as complaining or criticizing, your brain releases stress hormones like cortisol. These hormones can not only make you feel more anxious and irritable, but they can also weaken neural connections in your brain over time. This means that the more you engage in negative communication, the more likely you are to develop a negative outlook on life and a pessimistic attitude. In essence, the words you speak can shape the physical structure of your brain. This phenomenon is known as neuroplasticity, which refers to the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. So, if you want to change your brain for the better, start by changing the way you communicate with yourself and others. By choosing your words carefully and consciously, you can actually rewire your brain to be more positive, resilient, and compassionate. This doesn't mean you have to be inauthentic or pretend that everything is perfect. It simply means being mindful of the words you use and the impact they have on your brain and overall well-being. So, the next time you catch yourself engaging in negative self-talk or gossiping about others, pause and consider the long-term effects of your words on your brain. By making a conscious effort to communicate in a more positive and uplifting way, you can literally change the structure of your brain and cultivate a more positive and fulfilling life.
