Freedom lies in letting go from "summary" of Wisdom Of Insecurity by Alan W Watts

The idea of freedom can be a perplexing one, as it often seems to elude us when we grasp for it too tightly. We may believe that freedom lies in holding onto things, whether they be possessions, relationships, or beliefs. However, this very act of clinging can actually be what restricts us from experiencing true freedom. When we are constantly seeking security in external things, we are never truly free. We become bound by our attachments, unable to let go and surrender to the flow of life. It is only when we release our grip on these things that we can open ourselves up to a deeper sense of freedom. Letting go does not mean giving up or becoming apathetic. It means releasing our need to control every aspect of our lives and trusting in the process. It means accepting the uncertainties and impermanence of life, rather than resisting them. By relinquishing our attachments and expectations, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly trying to manipulate our circumstances. We allow ourselves to be present in the moment, fully accepting whatever arises without judgment or fear. In this state of surrender, we find a profound sense of peace and ease. We are no longer weighed down by the need to hold onto things that no longer serve us. Instead, we are able to move through life with grace and flexibility, embracing the ever-changing nature of existence. True freedom lies in the willingness to let go of our illusions of control and security. It is in this act of surrender that we discover the boundless possibilities that await us. By releasing our grip on the known, we open ourselves up to the infinite potential of the unknown.
