Accepting help from strangers from "summary" of Wild by Cheryl Strayed

In the solitary wilderness of the Pacific Crest Trail, I found myself faced with a simple yet profound truth: sometimes, in order to survive, you have to accept help from strangers. This was a concept that went against every instinct I had been taught growing up, to be self-sufficient and independent at all costs. But out there, alone with nothing but the weight of my own fears and mistakes on my back, I had no choice but to humble myself and reach out to those around me. It started with small gestures - a fellow hiker offering me a granola bar when I was running low on food, a trail angel leaving a jug of water at a remote junction.
