When we allow ourselves to simply sit with our emotions, without immediately reacting to them, we create space for understanding to arise. This practice of non-reactivity requires us to cultivate a sense of mindfulness, a non-judgmental awareness of our present moment experience. By observing our emotions without getting swept away by them, we can begin to see them more clearly, without the distortion of our habitual reactions.
