Inflationary epoch from "summary" of Where Did the Universe Come From? and Other Cosmic Questions by Chris Ferrie,Geraint Lewis

The Inflationary epoch was an incredibly rapid period of expansion in the early universe, causing space to grow exponentially in size. It is believed to be responsible for the vastness of the universe and the formation of galaxies. This period of growth is one of the most important events in cosmology.
  1. Inflationary epoch is a period of rapid expansion in the universe, as theorized by scientists and cosmologists. This theory suggests that just after the Big Bang happened, the universe quickly expanded to what it is today.

  3. During this period, space-time stretched incredibly fast, causing galaxies to move away from each other faster than they could attract through gravity. Scientists believe that the laws of physics required some type of inflation or acceleration in order for the universe to be so large and homogenous.
  4. Within this theory, tiny fluctuations of energy were present at the beginning of the universe which allowed for the creation of stars, galaxies, and other structures we see today across the cosmos.
  5. Scientists have observed evidence within the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) that support the theory of an inflationary epoch. These results help us better understand the birth and early development of our universe.
