Healing is not a straight line. It’s not a simple trajectory from illness to health, from despair to happiness. It’s a messy, complicated process that doesn’t follow a predictable path. In my own experience, I’ve found that healing is more like a roller coaster ride, with its highs and lows, twists and turns. There are days when I feel like I’m making great progress, when I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I feel strong, hopeful, and determined to keep moving forward. But then there are days when everything feels overwhelming, when the old thoughts and behaviors creep back in, dragging me down into the darkness once again. It’s frustrating and disheartening, to say the least. It’s hard not to feel like a failure when I take two steps forward and then one step back.
