When we experience trauma, our nervous system can become dysregulated, leading to symptoms such as hypervigilance, anxiety, and flashbacks. This dysregulation is like a car engine revving too high, with the gas pedal stuck and no way to slow down. Grounding techniques act as a brake for this overactive nervous system, helping to bring it back into a state of balance and calm. These techniques work by bringing our attention to the present moment, anchoring us in our bodies and in the here and now.
