Multitasking hinders memory performance from "summary" of Unlimited Memory by Kevin Horsley
When we attempt to do multiple tasks at once, our memory performance suffers. Our brains are not designed to focus on numerous things simultaneously. When we try to multitask, our attention becomes divided, making it harder for us to retain information in our memory. Studies have shown that when people multitask, their ability to recall information decreases. This is because our brains can only effectively concentrate on one task at a time. When we switch back and forth between different activities, our memory is not able to encode the information properly, leading to forgetfulness and decreased retention. In order to improve our memory performance, it is essential to focus on one task at a time. By giving our full attention to a single activity, we allow our brains to process and store information more effectively. This focused approach enhances our ability to remember details and recall them when needed.- We can strengthen our memory performance. When we prioritize singular focus over trying to do multiple things at once, we give our brains the opportunity to encode information more efficiently. This leads to improved memory retention and better overall cognitive function.
