Challenge negative thought patterns from "summary" of Unfuck Your Brain by Faith G. Harper, PhD, LPC-S, ACS, ACN

Negative thought patterns can be insidious little buggers, worming their way into your brain and setting up camp without your permission. They can become so familiar that you might not even notice when they're there, whispering their toxic messages in your ear. But just because these thoughts have taken up residence in your mind doesn't mean you have to let them stay. The first step in challenging negative thought patterns is to simply notice when they arise. Pay attention to the thoughts that flit through your mind like pesky mosquitoes. Are they telling you that you're not good enough, that you're a failure, that you'll never succeed? Recognizing these thoughts for what they are – harmful and untrue – is the first step in reclaiming your mental space. Once you've identified these negative thought patterns, it's time to interrogate them. Ask yourself where they came from, why you believe them, and whether there's any evidence to support them. More often than not, you'll find that these thoughts are based on faulty logic or outdated information. By shining a light on them, you can start to dismantle their power over you. Replacing negative thought patterns with more positive and realistic ones takes practice. Start by challenging the negative thought every time it pops up. Ask yourself if there's a more accurate way to view the situation, one that isn't colored by negativity or self-doubt. Over time, these new thought patterns will become second nature, crowding out the old, toxic ones. Remember, challenging negative thought patterns isn't about ignoring or suppressing your emotions. It's about acknowledging them, understanding where they come from, and choosing to respond to them in a healthier way. By taking control of your thoughts, you can start to reshape your reality and create a more positive and fulfilling life for yourself.
