Force and motion relationships from "summary" of Understanding the Laws of Motion by Kristen Petersen

Force and motion are closely related, with one often causing changes in the other. This relationship can be seen in many everyday occurrences and can be studied to gain a better understanding of the world around us.
  1. The concept of force and motion is a fundamental part of how objects behave in the physical environment.

  3. Understanding the relationships between force and motion allows us to know what will happen when we apply forces to an object.
  4. It is also possible to estimate the speed or distance an object would travel based on summation of forces applied to it.
  5. Force is defined as an influence that causes an object to accelerate or decelerate, often due to push or pull of some kind.
  6. Studies of force and motion will often require knowledge of physics to accurately calculate parameters such as acceleration and kinetic energies.
  7. For example, when a ball is thrown into the air, its motion changes due to the application of various gravitational and aerodynamic forces on it.
  8. Motion can be described by several key parameters including velocity, acceleration, direction and frequency of movement.
  9. Although knowledge of these laws can help predict the behaviour of objects, there may sometimes be situations where unexpected results occur.
