Galileo was a staunch advocate of the Copernican system, which placed the sun at the center of the universe, contrary to the prevailing belief at the time that the Earth was at the center. This was a bold stance to take, as the Catholic Church strongly supported the geocentric model and any challenges to it were viewed as heretical. However, Galileo was undeterred in his support for the heliocentric theory, as he saw the evidence in favor of it as compelling and convincing.
