Loss and grief are constant companions for TLs from "summary" of TLs by Ana Huang

Loss and grief are constantly lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce on Teacher-Librarians (TLs) when they least expect it. The nature of their work exposes them to a myriad of losses - from losing beloved books to losing beloved students. These losses can be tangible, like when a library collection is damaged in a flood, or intangible, like when a student moves away and leaves a void in the TL's heart. The grief that accompanies these losses is no less real. It can manifest as a sense of emptiness, a feeling of powerlessness, or a relentless ache that refuses to go away. TLs are expected to be strong and resilient in the face of adversity, but sometimes the weight of their grief can be overwhelming. They may find themselves struggling to keep up with their responsibilities, or feeling disconnected from their passion for teaching and learning. The constant presence of loss and grief can take a toll on TLs' mental and emotional well-being. They may experience burnout, anxiety, or depression as a result of carrying the heavy burden of their grief. It is important for TLs to acknowledge and address their feelings of loss and grief, rather than trying to suppress or ignore them. By allowing themselves to grieve, they can begin to heal and find a sense of peace amidst the chaos. Despite the challenges they face, TLs continue to persevere in their mission to serve their students and communities. They draw strength from their love of books, their dedication to education, and their unwavering belief in the power of knowledge. And though loss and grief may be constant companions on their journey, TLs refuse to let them define who they are or what they do. They are warriors of the heart, fighting bravely in the face of adversity, and inspiring others to do the same.
