Help your child make sense of their experiences from "summary" of The Whole-Brain Child by Daniel J. Siegel,Tina Payne Bryson
When we talk about helping our children make sense of their experiences, what we're really focusing on is the idea of integration. Integration is the process by which separate parts are brought together to form a whole. In terms of our children's experiences, this means helping them understand how different events, thoughts, and emotions are connected.
One way to help your child with this process is to engage in what we call "name it to tame it." This involves helping your child label their emotions and experiences in order to make them more manageable. By putting a name to what they are feeling, children can begin to make sense of their emotions and gain a sense of control over them.
