In the vast and unfeeling universe, humanity may have developed a sense of superiority over all other beings. Such arrogance is founded on the belief that our technology makes us invincible, our machines unassailable. Yet, as events unfolded in the war-torn landscape of Earth, it became clear that this belief was nothing more than a delusion. The Martians, with their advanced technology and superior intellect, descended upon our world like a plague. Their tripods marched across the land, their heat-rays reducing all in their path to ashes. Our most powerful weapons were nothing but toys in the face of their overwhelming might. Our guns and cannons, which once struck fear into the hearts of men, now seemed feeble and inadequate. As the war raged on, it became apparent that the Martians' technology was not just superior to ours – it was on an entirely different level. Their machines moved with a grace and efficiency that left our own creations in the dust.
