In the face of the Martians' advanced technology and superior firepower, the humans found themselves utterly powerless. The most potent weapons of war that mankind had developed were nothing more than toys in comparison to the destructive capabilities of the alien invaders. The artillery and rifles that had once been symbols of human strength and dominance now seemed feeble and insignificant in the face of the Martian war machines.
