Working with Nightmares
1. Recognize that nightmares are an opportunity for transformation. Acknowledge the fear, but don't allow it to take over. 2. Make a conscious effort to recall the dream upon awakening. Write it down or talk it out with someone, if possible. 3. Accept that nightmares are a part of the dream process and can be helpful in uncovering underlying issues. 4. Prior to bedtime, set an intention to have peaceful and healing dreams. 5. Meditate to help calm your mind and prepare it for restful sleep. 6. During the nightmare, take control of the dream and consciously direct it in a positive direction. 7. Ask yourself what the dream is trying to tell you and what lessons it may be offering. 8. Be sure to get enough sleep and practice good sleep hygiene. 9. Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, and mindfulness meditation during the day. 10. Surround yourself with supportive people and ask for help from those you trust.
