Let go of the need for approval from others from "summary" of The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim

When we constantly seek approval from others, we are giving away our power and happiness to external sources. We become dependent on the validation and opinions of others to feel good about ourselves. This need for approval can stem from a lack of self-confidence and self-worth. We may feel inadequate and seek reassurance from others to fill the void within ourselves. However, seeking approval from others is a never-ending cycle. Even if we receive validation from one person, we may seek it from another, and another, and so on. This constant need for approval can be exhausting and unsustainable. It can also lead to feelings of insecurity and anxiety, as our self-worth becomes contingent on the opinions of others. By letting go of the need for approval from others, we free ourselves from this cycle of seeking external validation. We learn to trust in ourselves and our own judgment. We realize that our worth is not determined by others' opinions, but by how we perceive ourselves. We become more self-reliant and self-assured, as we no longer rely on external sources to feel good about ourselves. Letting go of the need for approval allows us to cultivate a deeper sense of self-acceptance and self-love. We learn to appreciate ourselves for who we are, rather than constantly seeking validation from others. We become more authentic and true to ourselves, as we no longer feel the need to conform to others' expectations.
  1. Letting go of the need for approval from others is a liberating experience. It allows us to reclaim our power and happiness, and to live life on our own terms. We become more confident, self-assured, and secure in ourselves, knowing that our worth comes from within, not from external sources.
