Teacher Anne Sullivan arrives from "summary" of The Story of My Life by Helen Keller
A young deaf and blind girl's life changed drastically when Anne Sullivan arrived as her teacher and mentor. Through Anne's guidance, the girl was able to learn how to communicate and express her thoughts despite her disability.- Anne Sullivan was a teacher who arrived to help out a young, blind, deaf and mute girl – this would be no easy task!
- Sullivan had recently graduated after completing her education at the Perkins Institute for the Blind and she was well-equipped to take care of this young girl’s needs.
- Sullivan made it her goal to discover an all new way for the young girl to learn, taking an innovative approach based on understanding and communication.
- Her mission was to teach the student, who couldn't see, hear or speak, to understand words as well as communicate with the world.
- Sullivan was determined to make this happen and soon enough, the student was able to learn how to write, read, do math and even speak over time.
- In order for her to reach this goal, she used objects, language, signs and gestures that would convey emotions, ideas, love and understanding between the two.
- When Sullivan first met the student, she found the child isolated from all people and activities because she struggled to connect with them in any way.
- After much hard work and dedication, both the teacher and student were satisfied with their bond and the progress they had made.
