Gratitude and humility in Salah from "summary" of The Spiritual Reality of Prayer (Salat) by Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman

Gratitude and humility are essential elements in our Salah. When we stand before Allah, we must do so with a heart full of gratitude for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us. This feeling of gratitude should be reflected in our every movement during Salah, from the opening Takbir to the final Tasleem. We must remember that every breath we take, every morsel of food we eat, every blessing we enjoy is a gift from Allah. Humility is key to truly connecting with Allah during Salah. We must lower ourselves in front of Him, acknowledging our own insignificance and His greatness. This humility should be manifested in our physical posture as well as in our inner state. When we bow down in Ruku, we are demonstrating our submission to Allah, our willingness to obey His commands without question. When we prostrate in Sujood, we are declaring our utter dependence on Him, recognizing that He is the source of all power and strength. Gratitude and humility go hand in hand in Salah. When we are truly grateful to Allah for His blessings, we cannot help but be humble before Him. And when we are humble before Him, we cannot help but be grateful for His mercy and forgiveness. This cycle of gratitude and humility is what allows us to experience the true spiritual reality of Salah. It is not simply a physical ritual that we perform out of habit or obligation; it is a deeply meaningful and transformative experience that has the power to change our lives. So let us strive to cultivate a spirit of gratitude and humility in our Salah. Let us approach each prayer with a heart full of thanks and a spirit of humility, knowing that it is through these qualities that we can truly connect with Allah and experience the spiritual reality of prayer.
