When we think about our friends, we often have a deep well of love and compassion for them. We offer them support, encouragement, and understanding. We would never dream of criticizing or belittling them when they are going through a tough time. Instead, we shower them with words of kindness and comfort. We lift them up, remind them of their worth, and help them see the light in the darkness. But when it comes to ourselves, we often have a very different approach. We can be our own worst critics, beating ourselves up for our mistakes, flaws, and shortcomings. We engage in negative self-talk, filling our minds with harsh words and judgments.
