In the summer of 1964, Lily Owens, a young girl living in South Carolina, embarks on a journey that will forever change her perspective on the world around her. Raised by an abusive father and haunted by the memory of her mother's death, Lily finds solace in the company of Rosaleen, her African-American housekeeper and friend.
