Adrian feels misunderstood by his parents from "summary" of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3⁄4 by Sue Townsend

Adrian's parents simply don't get him. They fail to understand his thoughts, his feelings, his dreams. It's like they are speaking different languages, unable to connect on a deeper level. Adrian longs for his parents to see him for who he truly is, to appreciate his uniqueness and individuality. Whenever Adrian tries to express himself, his parents dismiss him or belittle his ideas. They don't take him seriously, brushing off his concerns as trivial or childish. This leaves Adrian feeling frustrated and isolated, like he's living in a world of his own while his parents exist in another. Despite his best efforts to communicate with them, Adrian's parents remain oblivious to his inner struggles. They impose their own expectations and values on him, failing to recognize his own desires and ambitions. This lack of understanding only drives a wedge further between Adrian and his parents, creating a rift that seems impossible to bridge. As Adrian navigates the challenges of adolescence, he craves the support and understanding of his parents. He yearns for validation and acceptance, hoping that they will acknowledge his growth and maturity. Instead, he is met with resistance and incomprehension, leaving him feeling lost and alone in his own home. In the midst of this emotional turmoil, Adrian turns to his diary as a confidant, pouring out his innermost thoughts and feelings onto the pages. Here, he finds solace and comfort, a safe space where he can be truly himself without fear of judgment or misunderstanding. Adrian's diary becomes his sanctuary, a place where he can be truly understood, even if his parents fail to do so.
