The absence of compassion is glaringly apparent in the observations made during my time in the industrial towns of Northern England. As one navigates through the squalid living conditions and witnesses the destitution faced by the working class, a distinct lack of empathy is palpable. The sheer indifference towards the suffering of others, particularly those deemed socially inferior, is a stark reminder of the societal disconnect that plagues our modern world. In the midst of such abject poverty and despair, one would expect a sense of solidarity and empathy to prevail. However, the prevailing attitude towards the downtrodden appears to be one of apathy and disregard.
