Advocacy is needed from "summary" of The Road To Wigan Pier by George Orwell
Advocacy is needed. The fact is that no one in his senses would propose that it is a good thing for people to be without decent boots in winter. One cannot, after all, take a detached view of people who are wandering about the streets in bleeding feet, or of people who have to work in factories with their nails falling off. Yet when one comes to think of it, even in normal times there are very few people who are really happy in their minds. This is due partly to the fact that the concept of human brotherhood is no longer accepted. But it is also due to the fact that poverty is an evil thing, and that it needs continual fighting against. Advocacy is needed. It is necessary to point out that the existing state of affairs is bad. The ordinary human being is capable of getting caught up in a kind of humbug which prevents him from seeing the true facts. It is not enough to just say that things are bad, one must make them feel it. It is necessary to be shocked into awareness. The truth is that the people who are really poor are not the people who make the most noise about it. It is the people who are just above the level of poverty who suffer the most. Advocacy is needed. The problem is that most people do not understand the true nature of poverty. They think of it as something that happens to other people, but not to themselves. They do not realize that poverty is a condition that can affect anyone, no matter how hard they work or how much money they have. This lack of understanding is what allows poverty to continue unchecked. Advocacy is needed. It is not enough to just feel sorry for the poor, one must take action to help them. This means speaking out against injustice, and working to change the system that keeps people in poverty. It means standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, and fighting for a more just and equal society. Only through advocacy can we hope to make a real difference in the lives of those who are suffering.Similar Posts
