The first step toward change is acceptance. Once we truly accept the reality of our situation, we can begin to make meaningful changes in our lives. Acceptance does not mean resignation or defeat. It means acknowledging the truth of our circumstances without denial or distortion. Many of us resist facing the truth because it can be painful or uncomfortable. We may prefer to live in a state of denial, convincing ourselves that things are not as bad as they seem. However, this avoidance only prolongs our suffering and prevents us from moving forward. Accepting reality requires courage and humility. It requires us to set aside our ego and admit when things are not going well.
