Monarchical rule undermines freedom from "summary" of The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine
Monarchical rule, by its very nature, is a system that concentrates power in the hands of a single individual - the monarch. This singular authority is not subject to the checks and balances that are inherent in a democratic system. The monarch has the final say in all matters of governance, without the need to consult or be held accountable to the people. This lack of accountability leads to a situation where the rights and freedoms of the citizens are at the mercy of the monarch's whims. There is no guarantee that the monarch will act in the best interests of the people, as their decisions are not subject to scrutiny or challenge. This unchecked power can easily be abused, leading to oppression and tyranny. Furthermore, under monarchical rule, there is a clear hierarchy of power, with the monarch at the top. This hierarchical structure inherently limits the freedom of the people, as they are always subject to the will of the monarch. Any dissent or opposition to the monarch's rule is swiftly suppressed, further eroding the freedoms of the citizens. In contrast, a system based on the principles of democracy, where power is distributed among the people and their elected representatives, ensures that freedom is protected. In a democratic system, the rights and freedoms of the citizens are enshrined in a constitution, which serves as a safeguard against the abuse of power.- The concept of monarchical rule undermines freedom because it concentrates power in the hands of a single individual, limits accountability, suppresses dissent, and creates a hierarchical structure that restricts the rights of the people. Only in a system based on democratic principles can freedom truly flourish.
