Freedom is the cornerstone of a just society from "summary" of The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine

In every society, there must be some form of government to maintain order and protect the rights of its citizens. However, the type of government that is established will determine the level of freedom that individuals are able to enjoy. When freedom is restricted, whether through oppressive laws or tyrannical rulers, it is impossible for a society to be considered just. Freedom is not simply a privilege that some may enjoy, but a fundamental right that all individuals are entitled to. It is the very essence of justice, as it allows people to govern themselves and make decisions that align with their own beliefs and values. Without freedom, there can be no true equality or fairness in society, as individuals are forced to comply with regulations that may not serve their best interests. A just society is one in which every person is able to exercise their rights freely, without fear of retribution or persecution. It is a society in which individuals are respected as autonomous beings, capable of making decisions for themselves and taking responsibility for their actions. When freedom is upheld as the cornerstone of a society, it becomes the bedrock upon which justice can be built. The rights of man are not privileges to be granted or revoked at the whim of those in power, but inherent qualities that define our humanity. It is the duty of government to protect and uphold these rights, ensuring that every individual is able to live with dignity and respect. By recognizing the importance of freedom in creating a just society, we can work towards a future in which all people are able to thrive and prosper.
