Instead, it is an ongoing process of change and adaptation in response to the changing environment and the competition from other organisms. In a world where every organism is constantly evolving to become better at surviving and reproducing, staying still is not an option. Organisms must keep evolving just to maintain their current level of success. As one species evolves new traits or behaviors that give it an advantage, other species must evolve in response to keep up.
