Prince Edward meets Tom Canty from "summary" of The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain
In the course of time, Tom Canty, the pauper, becomes familiar with the life of the palace, and the ways and habits of the princely inmates of it. He learns to talk like them, move like them, even dress like them. So, when a certain memorable event happened in the palace, he was not at all disconcerted by it, as he would have been a few days before.
One day, a sudden thought flashed into his mind—a daring thought, a dangerous thought—a thought that had risen in his brain as if it were inspired, and straightway he acted upon it. He would be a prince, and go out into the world and learn what it was like to be a prince, and future king. So, he put on the rich garments of the young prince he was so familiar with, and then stood up straight and proud, like the real Prince Edward. And so, he passed forth into the world, and went seeking for a kingdom where he might become a prince indeed.
