Time is not a linear progression from "summary" of The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli

Time is not a line. It is not a sequence of events, one following the other. We like to think of time as a continuous flow, a river that carries us along from past to present to future. But this is not how time actually works. In reality, time is more like a tangled web, a complex network of connections and relationships. It is a fabric woven together by countless threads, each thread representing a different moment or event. These threads are not laid out in a straight line, but are intertwined and intertwined, creating a rich and intricate tapestry of time. At any given moment, we are surrounded by a multitude of different temporal threads, each one pulling us in a different direction. Our experience of time is shaped by the way these threads intersect and interact with one another. It is a dynamic and ever-changing process, with no fixed beginning or end. This view of time challenges our traditional understanding of cause and effect. In a linear progression of time, events are seen as following one another in a clear and predictable sequence. But in the tangled web of time, causality becomes more complex and elusive. Events do not simply cause other events to happen; they are influenced by a multitude of different factors, some of which may be unrelated or even contradictory. This gives rise to a kind of indeterminacy, a sense that the future is not set in stone but is open to a multitude of different possibilities. This perspective on time may be unsettling, but it also offers a sense of freedom and possibility. It invites us to rethink our assumptions about the nature of reality and our place within it. By embracing the complexity and richness of the tangled web of time, we can begin to see the world in a new and more expansive light.
