In the modern era of industrial agriculture, we have unwittingly unleashed a host of unintended consequences that are now coming back to haunt us. The mechanization and standardization of farming practices have led to a number of troubling side effects that were not foreseen by those who championed this approach to food production. One of the most glaring unintended consequences of industrial agriculture is the degradation of the environment. The heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has contaminated our soil and water, leading to a loss of biodiversity and the destruction of natural habitats. In our quest for higher yields and lower costs, we have sacrificed the health of the very ecosystems that sustain us.
