Santiago’s physical strength wanes with age from "summary" of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

As time passed, Santiago could feel the weight of his years bearing down on him. Once, he had been a strong and capable fisherman, renowned for his skill and endurance. But now, the relentless march of time had taken its toll on his body. His muscles, once taut and powerful, now ached with every movement. His back, once straight and proud, now stooped with the burden of age. Despite his best efforts, Santiago found himself struggling to keep up with the demands of his profession. The tasks that had once been second nature to him now required a Herculean effort. He no longer possessed the speed and agility of his youth, and his once sure hands now trembled with weakness. Each day brought a new challenge, as Santiago fought against the inevitable decline of his physical abilities. The simple act of hauling in his fishing lines became a test of strength and endurance. The fish, once easily subdued by his powerful arms, now put up a fierce resistance that left him exhausted and battered. But despite his advancing age and waning strength, Santiago refused to give in to despair. He knew that his body might be failing him, but his spirit remained unbroken. He drew on the reserves of determination and courage that had carried him through a lifetime of hardships, refusing to be defeated by the passage of time. And so, Santiago faced each day with a quiet resolve, knowing that his physical strength might be fading, but his inner strength remained as steadfast as ever. He might be an old man, weathered and worn by the years, but he was still a force to be reckoned with. And as long as he had breath in his body, he would continue to fight against the tide of time, refusing to be swept away by the currents of age.
