The concept of "justice for all" is often a myth from "summary" of The Mythology of Crime and Criminal Justice by Victor E. Kappeler,Gary W. Potter

The idea that justice is blind and fair for everyone is deeply ingrained in our society. It is the very foundation on which our legal system is built. However, the reality is far from this idealistic notion. In reality, justice is often skewed in favor of those who hold power and privilege. Those with wealth and influence have the means to hire top lawyers who can manipulate the legal system to their advantage. They can afford to post bail, hire expert witnesses, and appeal decisions. On the other hand, those who are impoverished are often forced to rely on overworked public defenders and face harsher sentences due to mandatory minimums and three-strikes laws. Moreover, racial and ethnic minorities are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system. They are more likely to be stopped, arrested, and convicted compared to their white counterparts. This systemic bias can be seen in sentencing disparities, where minorities receive harsher punishments for the same crimes committed by whites. The myth of justice for all is perpetuated by the media, which often portrays the legal system as fair and impartial. However, cases like the Central Park Five and the exoneration of wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA evidence show that the system is flawed and prone to errors.
  1. The concept of justice for all is often a myth in our society. While the legal system is designed to be fair and impartial, systemic inequalities and biases prevent true justice from being served. To truly achieve justice for all, we must address these underlying issues and work towards a more equitable and just society.
