Possessions can weigh us down from "summary" of The More of Less by Joshua Becker

Our possessions have a way of accumulating over time, slowly but surely taking up more physical space in our lives. At first, these items may seem harmless - a new gadget here, a trendy piece of clothing there. However, as we continue to accumulate more and more possessions, we may start to feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff we own. These possessions require time and energy to maintain and care for them. We must clean, organize, and store them, taking up valuable time that could be spent on more meaningful pursuits. Furthermore, the more possessions we have, the more financial burden we carry. We must constantly work to afford these possessions, often leading to stress and anxiety about our finances. In addition to the practical burdens possessions bring, they also have a psychological impact on us. The more possessions we own, the more attached we become to them. We may start to define ourselves by our possessions, believing that they reflect our worth and success. This attachment can be harmful, as it prevents us from letting go of items that no longer serve us. Furthermore, our possessions can weigh us down emotionally. We may feel burdened by the constant need to acquire more things in order to keep up with societal expectations. This pressure to consume can lead to feelings of inadequacy and discontent. Additionally, possessions can distract us from what truly matters in life - relationships, experiences, and personal growth.
  1. Our possessions can weigh us down in more ways than one. They take up physical space, time, and money, while also impacting us psychologically and emotionally. By decluttering and simplifying our lives, we can free ourselves from the burdens of excess possessions and create space for what truly matters.
