Anxiety is a natural response to stress from "summary" of The Mindful Way through Anxiety by Susan M. Orsillo,Lizabeth Roemer

Anxiety is a natural response to stress. When we experience stress, our bodies and minds react in a way that is designed to protect us. This reaction dates back to our evolutionary past when threats to our survival were more immediate and physical. In those times, our ancestors needed a way to respond quickly to danger, whether it was a predatory animal or a natural disaster. Today, while the threats we face may be different, our bodies still respond in much the same way. When we perceive a threat or danger, our bodies go into "fight or flight" mode, releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol to help us react quickly. This response is automatic and can be triggered by anything perceived as a threat, whether it is a physical danger or a psychological stressor. Anxiety is a natural part of this response. It is our body's way of preparing us for action, of helping us to deal with whatever is causing us stress. However, when anxiety becomes chronic or overwhelming, it can interfere with our daily lives and well-being. This is when anxiety can become a problem that needs to be addressed. Understanding that anxiety is a natural response to stress can help us to approach it with more compassion and acceptance. Rather than viewing anxiety as a sign of weakness or something to be feared, we can see it as a normal part of being human. By acknowledging this, we can begin to work with our anxiety in a more constructive way, rather than fighting against it or trying to suppress it. Mindfulness can be a powerful tool in this process. By learning to be present with our anxiety, to observe it without judgment, we can begin to develop a different relationship with it. We can learn to see it as a signal that something is amiss, that we need to take care of ourselves in some way. This shift in perspective can be transformative, helping us to navigate our anxiety with greater ease and resilience.
