Connection from "summary" of The Man Who Planted Trees by Jean Giono

The shepherd and I talked of the trees he had planted. He told me that he had a special connection with the trees, almost as if they were his children. He nursed them, watered them, and watched over them with great care. It was as if he could communicate with them, understand their needs, and provide for them accordingly.
