Acceptance from "summary" of The Liars' Club by Mary Karr
Acceptance is a concept that has always been foreign to me. I never quite grasped the idea of accepting things as they are, without trying to change them. My mother, on the other hand, seemed to have a deep understanding of acceptance. She accepted things that I couldn't even fathom accepting. I remember the time when my father disappeared for days on end, leaving my mother to fend for herself and two young girls. Instead of panicking or trying to track him down, my mother simply accepted his absence as a part of life. She went about her daily routine as if nothing had happened, as if it was perfectly normal for a husband and father to vanish without a trace. At first, I was outraged by her acceptance. How could she be so calm in the face of such uncertainty? How could she not demand answers, not demand that he come home and explain himself? But as I grew older, I began to see the wisdom in her acceptance. Acceptance, as I now understand it, is not about giving up or resigning oneself to a situation. It is about acknowledging the reality of a situation and finding a way to live with it. It is about letting go of the need for control and embracing the uncertainty of life. My mother's acceptance of my father's disappearance was not a sign of weakness, but of strength. She showed me that sometimes, the only way to survive is to accept things as they are and keep moving forward.Similar Posts
