Remember where you came from from "summary" of The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish

Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, I learned early on the importance of remembering where you came from. My grandmother used to always tell me, "Don't forget your roots, baby girl. They are what make you who you are." And she was right. Our past shapes us in ways we may not even realize. When you remember where you came from, you stay grounded. You don't get caught up in the glitz and glamour of success. You remember the struggles, the sacrifices, the hard work that got you to where you are. It keeps you humble, grateful for what you have achieved, and mindful of those who helped you along the way. For me, remembering where I came from means honoring the people who believed in me when no one else did. It means staying true to my authentic self, despite the pressures to conform to society's standards. It means never forgetting the struggles of my ancestors, who paved the way for me to have the opportunities I have today. In a world that often values material wealth and superficial success, remembering where you came from is a radical act of defiance. It is a declaration that your worth is not determined by what you have, but by who you are and where you come from. It is a reminder that true success is measured not by the size of your bank account, but by the depth of your character and the impact you have on others. So, as I continue on my journey, I carry with me the lessons of my past. I hold onto the wisdom of my grandmother and the spirit of resilience that runs through my veins. I remember where I came from, not out of nostalgia or sentimentality, but out of a deep sense of gratitude and pride. For it is in remembering our roots that we find the strength to reach for the stars and the courage to stand tall in the face of adversity.
