Escaping from the shadows of the past from "summary" of The Kite Runner (new) by Khaled Hosseini

The weight of the past can be a heavy burden to carry, dragging us down and holding us back from moving forward. In "The Kite Runner," characters grapple with the ghosts of their past actions, haunted by memories that refuse to fade. For Amir, the protagonist of the story, the shadows of his past deeds loom large, casting a long shadow over his present life. Amir's betrayal of his childhood friend Hassan, and his subsequent failure to stand up for him in his time of need, haunt him throughout the story. The guilt and shame he feels over these past actions follow him like a dark cloud, impacting his relationships and choices in the present. Amir's journey is one of seeking redemption and forgiveness, of trying to escape the shadows of his past through acts of courage and selflessness. Similarly, Hassan's son, Sohrab, is also trapped by the shadows of the past, carrying the scars of his father's suffering and his own traumatic experiences. Sohrab's journey mirrors that of his father and Amir, as he struggles to break free from the cycle of violence and betrayal that has defined his life. Through acts of bravery and sacrifice, Sohrab begins to find a path towards healing and liberation from the ghosts that haunt him.
