Finding God in all things is a key to spiritual growth from "summary" of The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything by James Martin
Finding God in all things is a key to spiritual growth. This concept is at the heart of Ignatian spirituality, which is based on the teachings and practices of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. Ignatian spirituality is not about retreating from the world in order to find God; rather, it is about finding God in everything that we do and in everyone that we encounter. It is about seeing the divine presence in the ordinary moments of our lives, as well as in the extraordinary moments. By finding God in all things, we open ourselves up to a deeper relationship with the divine. We come to see that God is not separate from us, but is present in every aspect of our lives. This awareness can bring us a sense of peace and joy, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. It can also help us to cultivate gratitude for the many blessings that we have been given. Finding God in all things also helps us to see the interconnectedness of all creation. We begin to realize that we are not isolated individuals, but are part of a larger whole. This can lead to a greater sense of compassion and empathy for others, as we come to see that we are all united in our shared humanity. Moreover, finding God in all things can help us to discern the divine will for our lives. When we are attuned to God's presence in the world, we are better able to discern the promptings of the Spirit and to follow the path that God has laid out for us. This can bring a sense of purpose and meaning to our lives, as we strive to live in alignment with God's plan for us.- Finding God in all things is about developing a mindset of openness and receptivity to the divine presence in our lives. It is about cultivating a sense of wonder and awe at the beauty and complexity of the world around us. It is about recognizing that God is constantly reaching out to us, inviting us into a deeper relationship. When we respond to this invitation with an open heart and a willing spirit, we can experience spiritual growth and transformation beyond our wildest dreams.
