Ordinary man discovers Earth's impending destruction from "summary" of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: The Illustrated Edition by Douglas Adams

Arthur Dent, an unassuming man living in England, is faced with the shocking revelation that his home planet is about to be destroyed to make way for a hyperspace bypass. His house is set to be demolished for this construction project, but little does he know that the entire Earth is also slated for destruction. Arthur's world is turned upside down when he learns that not only is his house being demolished, but the entire planet is in jeopardy. As Arthur grapples with this earth-shattering news, he is thrust into a series of bizarre and hilarious adventures that take him across the galaxy. Along the way, he encounters a host of strange characters, including Ford Prefect, a researcher for the titular Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, who reveals the impending destruction of Earth to Arthur. Ford, an alien posing as a human, takes Arthur under his wing and introduces him to the wonders of the universe, as well as the imminent doom facing their home planet. Together, Arthur and Ford embark on a journey through space that is equal parts thrilling and absurd. They hitch a ride on a passing spaceship, the Heart of Gold, which is powered by the revolutionary Infinite Improbability Drive. As they travel through the cosmos, Arthur comes to terms with the impending destruction of Earth and the realization that he is just a small speck in the vast expanse of the universe. Through his encounters with a motley crew of extraterrestrial beings and his own reflections on the nature of existence, Arthur grapples with the enormity of the situation he finds himself in. As he navigates through the absurdity of the universe, he is forced to confront his own mortality and the impermanence of his world. Despite the chaos and uncertainty that surrounds him, Arthur must find a way to come to terms with the impending destruction of Earth and his place in the grand scheme of things.
