Ford Prefect is not actually from Earth from "summary" of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Ford Prefect, as it turns out, is not your average Earthling. In fact, he's not an Earthling at all. You see, Ford is actually from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelgeuse. Yes, you heard that right - Betelgeuse. Not exactly your run-of-the-mill place of origin. Now, you might be wondering how Ford ended up on Earth in the first place. Well, it all started when he decided to do a bit of research for the electronic book he was working on, 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. Ford thought Earth would be the perfect place to gather some material for his guidebook. Little did he know that he would end up getting stuck on this peculiar planet for far longer than he had anticipated. Despite his alien origins, Ford is quite adept at blending in with the humans. He's got the lingo down pat, knows how to navigate the local customs, and even manages to pass himself off as an ordinary bloke. Of course, having spent so much time on Earth, Ford has developed a bit of a fondness for the place. He's grown rather attached to the peculiarities of human society and has even forged some deep connections with a few Earthlings along the way. But every now and then, Ford's alien nature tends to poke through the facade. His quick wit, unusual habits, and inexplicable knowledge of the universe serve as constant reminders that he is, in fact, not of this world. And yet, despite his otherworldly origins, Ford Prefect remains an integral part of the strange and wonderful tapestry that is Earth.
