Practice selfcompassion during challenging moments from "summary" of The Headspace Guide to Meditation and Mindfulness by Andy Puddicombe

When life gets tough, it can be easy to be hard on ourselves. We might criticize ourselves for not handling things better or for making mistakes. But in those challenging moments, it is important to remember to treat ourselves with kindness and understanding. This is where self-compassion comes in. Self-compassion is about being gentle with ourselves when we are struggling. It is about recognizing that we are human and that everyone goes through difficult times. Instead of beating ourselves up, we can offer ourselves the same kindness and support that we would offer to a friend in need. Practicing self-compassion during challenging moments involves acknowledging our feelings without judgment. We can observe our thoughts and emotions with curiosity and openness, rather than trying to push them away or suppress them. By allowing ourselves to experience our emotions fully, we can better understand and process them. Self-compassion also involves being mindful of our self-talk. Instead of berating ourselves with negative thoughts, we can choose to speak to ourselves in a kind and encouraging way. We can remind ourselves that it is okay to struggle and that we are doing the best we can in that moment. In addition, self-compassion involves taking care of ourselves physically and emotionally. This might involve engaging in activities that bring us joy and relaxation, such as meditation, exercise, or spending time with loved ones. It also means setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care, even when things feel overwhelming. By practicing self-compassion during challenging moments, we can cultivate a greater sense of resilience and self-acceptance. We can learn to navigate difficult situations with greater ease and grace, knowing that we are worthy of love and compassion, no matter what life throws our way.
