Creationism and intelligent design lack scientific evidence from "summary" of The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkins

Creationism and intelligent design purport to be scientific theories, but they fall short of meeting the basic requirements of science. A scientific theory must be testable, and the tests must be repeatable by any scientist anywhere in the world. Furthermore, any scientific theory must make predictions that can be proven wrong through experiment or observation. Creationism and intelligent design fail on both counts. One of the key features of a scientific theory is that it must be falsifiable. In other words, there must be a way to prove it wrong. Evolution, for example, could be proven wrong if a fossil of a rabbit were found in the pre-Cambrian rocks. However, no such evidence has ever been discovered. On the other hand, creationism and intelligent design rely on the supernatural, which is by definition outside the realm of scientific inquiry. Moreover, a scientific theory must be based on evidence that is open to examination and verification. Evolution, for example, is based on a vast body of evidence from multiple disciplines, including paleontology, genetics, and comparative anatomy. This evidence is freely available for anyone to examine and scrutinize. In contrast, creationism and intelligent design rely on faith and belief rather than evidence. Furthermore, a scientific theory must be internally consistent and coherent. Evolution provides a unifying explanation for the diversity of life on Earth, from the similarities between different species to the fossil record to the genetic code shared by all living organisms. Creationism and intelligent design, on the other hand, rely on ad hoc explanations that do not fit together into a coherent framework.
  1. While creationism and intelligent design may have their place in philosophical or religious discussions, they do not meet the criteria of a scientific theory. Without empirical evidence, testability, and coherence, they cannot be considered as valid alternatives to the theory of evolution.
