One such example is the case of the drug diethylstilbestrol (DES), which was prescribed to pregnant women in the mid-20th century to prevent miscarriages. However, it was later discovered that DES was not only ineffective in preventing miscarriages, but also had harmful effects on the daughters of the women who had taken the drug. These daughters were more likely to develop reproductive abnormalities and cancers later in life, due to the exposure to DES in utero.
