Religious beliefs can lead to violence and discrimination from "summary" of The God Delusion - by Richard Dawkins by Instaread

Religious beliefs can lead to violence and discrimination when taken to extremes. People often use their faith as a justification for acts of aggression against others who do not share their beliefs. This can result in acts of terrorism, persecution, and even war. Throughout history, religious conflicts have been responsible for countless deaths and suffering. The Crusades, for example, were a series of religious wars fought between Christians and Muslims over control of the Holy Land. These conflicts resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and left a lasting legacy of bitterness and resentment. In more recent times, we have seen how religious extremism can lead to acts of terrorism. Groups like ISIS have carried out brutal attacks in the name of their faith, killing innocent civilians and spreading fear and chaos. This kind of violence is often fueled by a sense of religious superiority and a belief that non-believers are somehow less worthy of respect or consideration. Religious beliefs can also lead to discrimination against minority groups. People who do not conform to the dominant religious beliefs in a society may face prejudice, marginalization, and even violence. This can create a climate of fear and intolerance that makes it difficult for people to live freely and openly.
  1. While religion can be a source of comfort and community for many people, it can also be a force for division and conflict. It is important for us to recognize the dangers of religious extremism and work towards a more tolerant and inclusive society.
